Sorry, I've been baaaad. Haven't updated this thing in a while. ANYway, I have however watched the first disc of Gungrave and am now begging my brother to sell it to me since he wasn't particularly crazy about it. I however loved it. The thing I like the most about it it the characters. They don't fit, totally anyway, into the stereotypes of the many anime personas. Branden Heat, a man of VERY few words, but says many things through facial expressions. He broods and is the muscle of the gang. But before I go further with the characters, I'll explain the episode set-up on this first disk. First episode is "present day" and the birth of the main character 'Beyond the Grave', very cool. This guy is HUGE! Probably the biggest characters I've seen and umm proportioned. He seems to be a mix of Vash (Trigun), Alucard (Hellsing), and a touch of Vicious (Cowboy Bebop). Vash = height, Alucard = shooting style, and Vicious = face looks a bit similar. Anyway, this episode you have the development of questions. WHo exactly is 'Grave'? What is 'Milleniun'? etc. The rest of the episodes is backflash. A development of the characters' relationships and further questions of WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN THEM? We all know and is no shocker that Brandon is Grave. But still there is the WHY? ok, so in the backflash, there is a gang consisting of Brandon, Harry, Nathan, Kenny, and Joless. Brandon is the main muscle. Harry is the brains but he does his fair share of fighting and is not defenseless. Nathan, even though the character is good, I believe, is just filler, a body really, to bring up the number of their group. Kenny's the thief, the kid, wanting to show-off and be cool but just gets into trouble instead. Joless is the quiet, shy one, the "sacrificial lamb" if you will . . . so theirs the group. But you have to wonder now how does Harry earn his new nickname "Bloody Harry" in the present day and how Brandon/Grave got to be the way he is. I approve of this one. I don't particularly care for the music maybe I just have to here more. But as of now it doesn't really impress me. I will be keeping an eye on this one.
On a side note, I'm up to volume 8 of the Vampire Game manga. I love it! I wish they would make it into an anime, but then it would probably be butchered. I also started up Psychic Academy. So far so good, I'm enjoying it. Another one to recommend. Until next time and here is some caps of Gungrave.
